Carnets "Play the World" for Touring Orchestras
While Security Measures for Hand-Carried Instruments have Tightened, International Tours for Orchestras and Musicians are Easier than Ever
A special ATA Carnet program for orchestras and musicians planning to tour internationally is available to eligible carnet applicants. The program, titled Carnets "Play the World", gives orchestras and musicians the freedom to travel overseas but pursue different itineraries and avoid the major financial obstacle a musician previously encountered. The orchestra and musician still receive the same benefits from using an ATA Carnet as in the past:
Duty and tax-free temporary passage into 70 Countries and Territories worldwide.
Previously, musicians desiring to detour from their orchestra's itinerary to perform as solists or to work with internationally renowned teachers were required to puchase and secure a separate ATA Carnet and post a separate bond. Using Carnets "Play the World", musicians can apply for a separate ATA Carnet to allow them to travel separately from their touring orchestra. Security, however, may be provided by the orchestra's ATA Carnet bond.
Carnets "Play the World" eliminates the single largest hurdle to musicians and orchestras touring with different itineraries and ATA Carnets: the underwriting of the musician's ATA Carnet bond.
