ATA Carnet Users Get Big Benefit in Latin America: Chile con Carnet
For the first time since the inception of the ATA Carnet worldwide system began, a Latin American country, Chile, will officially accept carnets. Effective October 1, 2005, Chile joins 67 existing carnet countries in accepting the ATA Carnet international export document for temporary imports.
For the benefit of all types of carnet users, Chile will accept carnets for all three categories of goods:
- Exhibitions and Fairs (Trade Shows, for example)
- Professional Equipment (Tools of the trade, etc.)
- Commercial Samples (Demonstration equipment, sales samples...)
Because of the significant trading between the U.S. and Latin America, it is anticipated that this first step will be followed by other Latin American countries joining the ATA Carnet system within the next few years.
Please contact Curt Wilson at the CIB Carnet HelpLine, (800) ATA-2900, for additional information if you are planning to use a carnet for travel to Chile.
If you experience any problems or have questions about this change please contact the CIB Carnet HelpLine at (800) ATA-2900 or e-mail us.
