Effective
December 20th 2004 a New Carnet Form
will
be introduced in the US.

On
December 20th, 2004 a newly designed carnet form debuts in the US that is
smaller and easier to handle. Proposed and approved by the World Customs
Organization, the World Chambers Federation and US Customs and Border
Protection, the new form is A4 size or roughly 8 1/4” x 11 3/4”.
In
addition to the size change, there will be changes to the counterfoils and
vouchers, as well as the general list and general list continuation sheets.
According
to the US
national guaranteeing association, US Council for International Business, these
changes offer many benefits to the users of the carnet document:
¨ Portability: the smaller size is easier for users and Customs.
¨ Pairing of Counterfoils: easier to track movement in and out of each
country.
¨ Pairing of Counterfoils: easier to locate the next sheet to be used.
¨ Green General List: reduces the chances of alteration.
¨ No yellow vouchers: US carnets have fewer areas to sign.
¨ Duplex printing: fewer pages mean a streamlined document, less
paper.
And,
finally, it will fit into your file cabinet.
