In August, The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United States Council for International Business (USCIB) were pleased to announce that, Customs authorities in Qatar approved the use of ATA Carnets for Professional Equipment, such as broadcasting equipment, on an exceptional basis during the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. 

This is great news to the Sports Media industry, Networks, Camerapersons, Broadcasters, Journalists, as well as the Soccer Teams, and Vendors converging upon Qatar for the 2022 Games.  The ATA Carnet is a unified internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise or goods.  It allows cross border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free into 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year. The ATA Carnet is known as the “Merchandise Passport” for boomerang freight®. 

Qatar is already a Carnet Country that allows the use of ATA Carnets for goods displayed or used at exhibitions and trade fairs.  This extension of the use of ATA Carnets to include professional equipment in conjunction with the World Cup will save significant amounts of time and money to media professionals, sports teams, and vendors.  Though this extension is limited in Qatar from October till the end of December 2022, the ATA Carnets issued can still be used for up to a year in 87+ countries.  ATA Carnets can be used for camera bodies, lenses, tripods, lighting/audio equipment, drones/UAVs, monitors, hard drives/storage, computers, batteries, audio equipment, sports equipment, and more.
