BRAZIL – URGENT- ATA CARNET OPERATION

EFFECTIVE AS OF JANUARY 1, 2022

Notification has been received from the United States Council for International Business that the ATA Carnet will no longer be used as a customs document for temporary admission and export of goods into the country due to the lack of a national guaranteeing and issuing association, essential for the continuity of the program.  Therefore, as of January 1, 2022, BR customs will NOT accept or issue any Carnets for temporary admission or export.

Per notification from the World Customs Federation, be advised that:

  • Any goods temporarily imported into Brazil on or before December 31, 2021 will be allowed to complete their temporary admission, up to the final date of re-exportation or Carnet expiry date, and any such Carnets will have to be presented to Brazilian Customs on re-exportation.

  • Valid Carnets in circulation with BR listed on the green cover will NOT be presented to Brazil after 12/31/2021 as BR customs will reject entry.

  •  Extension must be carried out before 12/31/2021 for goods that are currently in Brazil to avoid any issues with BR customs at the time of re-exportation.
