Boomerang ATA Carnets Best Practices Toolkit

Monday, April 26, 2021

Boomerang carnets® recently took part in two conferences held by the International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA) and was represented by Boomerang’s own Andy Shiles (COO).  Both events were held in Texas—ICPA-ITAR in Fort Worth and the ICPA Spring Conference in San Antonio.  Andy was present at the Fort Worth event virtually but attended the San Antonio Spring Conference in person where he was recruited to facilitate one of the Export track presentations.  “It’s always great to see that spark of interaction between an exchange of new ideas and sharing a practical step-by-step solution to a problem in the field.”

Compliance professionals are challenged with managing continually changing policies and procedures.  As a longstanding logistics professional, Andy said, “I’ve been involved with ICPA since the very first year.  ICPA is focused on the individual and what we can do to make that individual the most successful that they can be and equip them with the knowledge and the skills to carry on and help their company.”

At Boomerang, we realize that ATA Carnets have long been utilized by trade professionals and companies who understand their use as an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise, goods, or professional equipment.  ATA Carnets allow cross border movement of goods import-duty and -tax free into 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year, and their value is widely recognized and utilized by SMEs, startups, and large corporations throughout many sectors.  Some companies can have as many as 20 or more ATA Carnets out in different countries at one time.

For holders, compliance managers, freight forwarders, and companies that have compliance departments,  boomerang carnets® has a toolkit to get your ATA Carnet program managed properly so that you do not incur penalties.  We have a best practices page of ten important points and procedures that you can depend on to get the most out of your carnet experience.  ATA Carnets need a good management process to avoid any trouble with their use. Implementing these best practices assists carnet users to manage, track, and return ATA Carnets to their service provider upon completion of the final trip or at the end of the valid carnet term, whichever comes first.  The timely return of the carnet is the most important best practice for a carnet user.
