The World Boomerang Championships 2024 took place in Westminster, Colorado from July 6th to the 16th bringing together the world’s top boomerang throwers for eleven days of intense competition. Held every two years in different global locations, this year’s event featured twelve teams representing Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.S.A. Spectators from around the world gathered to witness the excitement of elite world-class athletes with the ability to throw a boomerang distances the length of a football field at the speed of 80 mph.
This year is especially significant for boomerang carnets, as it marks our 20th anniversary sponsoring the U.S. Boomerang Team. We were honored to serve as the Title Sponsor for the World Boomerang Championships, a milestone that fills us with tremendous pride. Moira Wilson, Director, Marketing and Brand Development, reflected, “It seems like yesterday.”
In March, Moira attended the trials that determined the two six-member squads representing the U.S. team for this year’s championships. Her continuous support for this exceptional team brought her to the World Championships in Colorado, where she cheered them on, defending their team title won in France in 2022.
The rigorous schedule featured team, individual, and long-distance competitions held on a circular field at Westminster Park. The days were filled with fierce performances vying for the world title. The team competition started Sunday July 7th at 8 a.m. with a welcome by the Mayor, continuing on July 8th and 10th. Typically, competition days were held from 9 to 5 each day. July 11th was for the long-distance competition, July 13th, and 14th for individual competition. Eighty or more of the world’s best boomerang throwers competed.
The 2024 Results
Brazil claimed first place in the overall team competitions, followed by U.S.A. in second, and Germany in third.
First place in the individual category went to Logan Broadbent from the U.S. team making him the #1 boomerang thrower in the world! Logan’s impeccable athletic performance brought the individual title back to the U.S.A. for the first time since 2018! We are immensely proud of our long association with Logan and the U.S. boomerang team!
Of the participating countries this year, all are ATA Carnet countries, except for Brazil. Brazil joined the ATA Carnet system in 2016, but due to a struggle to maintain its national guaranteeing association, a requirement for being an ATA Carnet country, Brazil left the ATA Carnet system January 1, 2022. At boomerang carnets, we remain hopeful that Brazil will rejoin the ATA Carnet system when the time is right. We are delighted for their well-deserved first place team win in the 2024 World Boomerang Championships! We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all winners and participants for their outstanding high-level performances. It was an exciting competition!
