The ATA Carnet, also known as the Merchandise Passport for boomerang freight®, is ideal for jewelers traveling abroad with merchandise that will return to the country of origin.  Without it, duties and taxes must be paid to foreign customs or cash must be posted to secure a Temporary Importation Bond (TIB) in each country.  That can add up, especially when you are traveling to more than one country with your goods.  Unlike a TIB, the ATA Carnet provides the added security of two, or more, customs services (foreign and domestic) approving the cross-border movement of goods in advance.
