Memorial Day: A Day of Remembrance

Call Boomerang Carnets, Your Carnet Specialists

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was established after the Civil War to honor those who died in service to the United States.  The first widespread observance took place in 1868, primarily commemorating Civil War casualties.  Over time, the holiday evolved to recognize all military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.  In 1971, it was officially declared a federal holiday, observed annually on the last Monday of May.

At boomerang carnets®, we deeply value the meaning of Memorial Day.  It is a day of solemn reflection, honoring those who have given their lives in service to their country.  This significance is especially meaningful to us as a company shaped by the values of dedication and service.

Our founder, Bruce A. Wilson, served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.  He often expressed great pride in the service of his three older brothers during World War II.  His brother Chuck was awarded the Purple Heart for heroically saving the lives of fellow servicemen in India.  Bruce, who passed away in 2018, is remembered with great respect and affection by our company for the leadership, creativity, and personal warmth he brought to boomerang carnets.

Michael L. Host, our CFO, joined the company in 2001, bringing with him a strong sense of duty and experience.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968 to 1974 and worked closely with Bruce for 17 years.

“Bruce Wilson was a thoughtful, kind, and very creative business leader. His ideas and knowledge of international trade benefited not only his employees but also countless individuals in both government and private sectors.”

We honor and thank both Bruce Wilson and Michael Host for their service to our country and their contributions to our company.

Memorial Day remains a powerful national tradition, observed through parades, ceremonies, and quiet acts of remembrance.  As we mark this occasion, we wish you and your loved ones a reflective and peaceful Memorial Day holiday.
