The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) recently disclosed that effective June 1, 2024, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will commence accepting ATA Carnets.  This significant step was solidified during a pivotal session of the International Chamber of Commerce World Chambers Federation (WCF) General Council on November 21, 2023, where the Federation of Saudi Chambers was designated as the guaranteeing association for Saudi Arabia.

The ATA Carnet is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise or goods.  It allows cross border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free into 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year.  The ATA Carnet is known as the Merchandise Passport for boomerang freight® and ideal for Commercial Samples, Professional Equipment, and Goods for Display at Trade Fairs and Exhibitions.  At the end of the year, all the items listed on the carnet return to the country of origin, thus the term boomerang freight.

The scope of ATA Carnet acceptance for Saudi Arabia encompasses “Use at Exhibitions, Fairs, Meetings and Similar Events” that might include, for example, marketing displays, trade show booths, demo equipment, and merchandise & goods for display purposes.
