Supply Chain Veteran Joins Boomerang Carnets

Looking back on 2020 and while planning for the unknown in 2021, we noticed we didn’t have an opportunity to thoroughly introduce our new Chief Operating Officer, Andy Shiles, because of the unforeseen scramble we were dealing with in March. We didn’t know we’d be sending staff to work from home but, fortunately and coincidently we’d undergone a company-wide remote work program due largely to the fact we are customer service focused and want to be available when customers are traveling across the globe working in time zones with 24 hour differentiations. Andy came onboard at the moment the pandemic lockdowns began rolling out and before meeting everyone face to face he, and everyone else, went home. His new role has been challenging to say the least but, his passion for helping businesses never waivers no matter how many distractions are put in his way.

Recently Andy commented, “We are the only organization in the world distributing ATA Carnets in two different countries, U.S. ATA Carnets and U.K. ATA Carnets. This has proven to be a major convenience for businesses with locations in both countries. Any size business, small, medium or large, as well as individuals in either country can rely on boomerang carnets’ customer service, which includes our unique document distribution system, to support their travel and trade into 87+ carnet countries and territories. Over the years, from the outside, I’ve watched boomerang carnets expand and grow and am absolutely elated about being on the inside now working with them to help people and organizations stimulate international trade, grow the GDP in the U.S. and U.K. and create much needed jobs right now and into the future.”

BARRINGTON, IL - Cargo industry and supply chain veteran Andrew Shiles has joined Boomerang Carnets® as Chief Operating Officer (COO). From our centralized ATA Carnet issuing facility in Illinois, we serve exporters in all 50 U.S. states. ATA Carnets are internationally accepted customs documents used for temporary exports which allow for import-duty and -tax free customs clearance into carnet countries for up to one year. In 2014 boomerang carnets opened operations in the U.K. Shiles will be responsible for all U.S. and U.K. operations.

Shiles comes into the role of COO after Leslie August, who served the company for many years. "Leslie was a vital part of Boomerang Carnets® and we wish her the best," said Curt Wilson, President and CEO. "We are excited about Andy joining our team. He has substantial experience with international trade, government and industry affairs, operations management, regulatory compliance and marketing. This, along with his extensive connections in the governmental and private sectors, will be a great addition to our leadership team."

Shiles joins Boomerang Carnets® after serving as the Sr. Director of Trade Compliance of North America at CEVA Logistics. Shiles also served as the Sr. Vice President of Trade Services at the United States Council for International Business (USCIB). In addition, Shiles had a distinguished career of 30+ years at Federal Express Corporation (FedEx). Shiles has extensive experience in assisting companies in expanding their markets and stimulating international trade. He works to affect positive change in the import & export communities by collaborating with the governmental and private sectors to develop programs, pilots and regulations to streamline processes and promote secure supply chains.

Shiles tell us that he was "city born, and country raised." Born in New York City, he was raised in the Southwest and Tennessee. Shiles received his bachelor's degree from the University of Memphis and he currently resides in the Memphis, Tennessee area with his wife Amy of 30 years.
