Vietnam Joins ATA Carnet System Effective May 1, 2022

VIETNAM TO BEGIN ACCEPTING ATA CARNETS

The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) announced that Vietnam joined the ATA Carnet System and will begin accepting carnets effective May 1, 2022.  Vietnam is the 88th country/territory to join the ATA Carnet system. Vietnam will only accept Carnets issued for the Exhibitions and Fairs Convention at this time which covers the importation of goods for display or use at exhibitions, fairs, meetings, or similar types of events.

Vietnam (ISO code is VN) will accept ATA Carnets for the intended uses of:

  • Exhibitions and Fairs – ATA Carnets will be accepted by the Customs of Vietnam for goods for display or use at exhibitions, fairs, meetings, or similar events

Special conditions apply:

  • ATA Carnets are not accepted for transit
  • ATA Carnets are not accepted for postal traffic
  • ATA Carnets are accepted for both hand-carried goods and freight
  • Importation in multiple/split consignments is not accepted. However, importing only a part of the goods is allowed under condition that said imported items are re-exported as 1 consignment

From May 1, 2022, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hanoi will be the National Guaranteeing Organization member of the WCF/ATA international guarantee chain.
