Albania Becomes 72nd Carnet Country

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Effective February 25th, 2013 Albania (Republic of Albania) will begin to issue and accept ATA Carnets. Albania* is the newest and 72nd member of the ATA Carnet system and the first new member since 2011 when Mexico and Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the system. Albania is the final country on the Balkan Peninsula to participate in the carnet system, joining Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.

The Albanian national guaranteeing association that is responsible for Albanian carnets is the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Albania (UCCIAL).

Although carnets that are issued and valid may not have Albania printed on the list of countries, as of February 25th those carnets will be valid into Albania. If you plan to use a carnet into Albania please contact a Carnet Specialist to discuss your needs and ensure that your shipment and carnet will be cleared expeditiously during the first few months of Albania joining the system.

As additional information on Albania and carnets is available we will post it here as well as on the boomerang carnets® social media outlets.

*The country code for Albania is AL.
