Bahrain Joins ATA Carnet System June 1, 2014

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

The Kingdom of Bahrain becomes the 84th country/territory to join the ATA Carnet system effective June 1, 2014. Bahrain joins 4 other Middle Eastern countries that are members: Lebanon, Iran, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Armenia, Turkey and Cyprus are also members from that region. Saudi Arabia is in the process of joining the ATA Carnet system.

The leadership at the Bahrainian carnet national guaranteeing association, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, considers adoption of the ATA Carnet system a method of simplifying customs procedures and supporting the national economy. It is also anticipated that Bahrain's participation in the ATA Carnet system will encourage other regional states to join, namely, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Details of the implementation have not been published. However, boomerang carnet®'s Country Advisories will be updated when details are known. For carnet users that have an active ATA Carnet, import to and export from Bahrain will be allowed after June 1st although your ATA Carnet will not have "Bahrain" listed in the countries section.
