Carnets “Play the World” Scholarships Expanded to Mid-Winter Managers Meeting

Sep 4, 2013

Barrington, IL September 6, 2013 – Boomerang carnets® is expanding the scope of the 2014 Carnets "Play the World" scholarships to include the Mid-Winter Managers Meeting on January 26-27 in New York City. This is the 5th year of the scholarships which are awarded to League of American Orchestra members that tour internationally. However, 2014 is the first year that scholarship applicants will also be eligible for a scholarship to the Mid-Winter event.

A limited number of League of American Orchestra members will be awarded 2014 scholarships for the annual Mid-Winter Managers Meeting as part of the expanded program. The Carnets “Play the World” scholarships are awarded to professional and youth orchestras that promote American orchestras through their international tours. Orchestras that have not toured but that plan to tour internationally within the next three years are also eligible for the scholarship. Applications are now available for the 2014 Carnets "Play the World" scholarships to help defray the costs of attending their either the Mid-Winter Mangers Meeting or the annual leadership and education conference in June.

To emphasize the importance of professional education for orchestra operations professionals, the awards are directed to Executive Directors, General Managers, Tour Managers and Directors of Operations who are members of the League of American Orchestras. Each award covers virtually the entire cost of registration fees (or travel expenses), averaging $500 per scholarship recipient. The 2014 annual conference is in Seattle from June 4th – 6th.

Scholarship recipients appreciate the monetary award since, in most cases; they would not be able to attend the conference due to budget constraints. Orchestras are eligible for an additional $250 cash (or equivalent) prize if they receive an ATA Carnet and carnet bond from boomerang carnets® for an international tour within 12 months of the 2014 League Conference.

Anyone interested in being considered for the scholarship award can contact Moira Wilson of boomerang carnets® at 847-852-3104 or Moira@ATACarnet.com

Eighteen orchestras are past scholarship recipients including youth orchestras and major, internationally renowned orchestras.
