Thankful and Grateful
It is that time of the year when Thanksgiving holidays and harvest festivals around the world all remind us to give thanks for the abundance life has to offer. The holidays and festivals in many countries are united in celebrating the abundance of the harvest by joining with others to partake in sharing a meal, often accompanied with rituals customary to the culture. At boomerang carnets® we look forward to this time of year and give thanks to all our customers whom we have assisted with their ATA Carnet needs. Temporary exports enable businesses to grow internationally by clearing Customs with more ease at borders and saving duty and taxes in any of the 87+ carnet participating countries and territories around the world.
In the U.S., the traditional Thanksgiving meal in November commemorates the harvest feast shared by the colonists of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. In Canada, there is a Thanksgiving Day in October, very similar to the American Thanksgiving to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year. There are Harvest Festivals in the U.K. and Germany in the fall with religious food rituals and carnivals. In West Africa, Liberia they celebrate an American-style Thanksgiving, a tradition started by freed slaves from the U.S. and made official in the early 1880s. In Japan, November sees the celebration of Labor Thanksgiving Day that evolved from the ancient rice harvest festival Niinamesai with roots that stem as far back as the seventh century A.D. The Netherlands also celebrates Thanksgiving very much in the American tradition and lay claim to have inspired the first Thanksgiving in the New World. Many of the colonists who traveled on the Mayflower spent years working in the Dutch city of Leiden where a Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated annually to commemorate their freedom from the Spanish siege in 1574. Today, it is still celebrated the fourth Thursday in November, the same as in the U.S.
