Boomerang Carnets’ Duty Free Miles® Means Satisfaction & Savings
Boomerang carnets is a service company. We issue ATA Carnets which are a uniform, internationally accepted customs document which allow for cross border movement of goods while avoiding import-duty and -tax on the goods while they are out of the country for up to a year. The ATA Carnet is a paper document commonly referred to as the Merchandise Passport. We have our work cut out for us marketing our services which is why service marks are so important. The vision, creativity, and innovation that have been used to promote boomerang carnets rely on the service marks we hold. During the 30+ years we’ve been in business our portfolio of service marks has grown to thirty, primarily on the Principal Register in the United States and a few in Canada and the United Kingdom.
We thought it would be interesting to write about certain service marks in our Intellectual Property portfolio. With so many to choose from, we are going to write a series of posts which will include our favorites. Admittedly, choosing some, and not all, will be difficult because each has a specific purpose and story.
Duty Free Miles® was initiated as a promotional program in the early days of the air mile reward programs. It rewarded our customers for their loyalty. Our industry was transitioning from paper to electronic ATA Carnet applications, and we incentivized customers to try our brand-new electronic carnet application. The way it worked was participants receive mileage awards when their carnet usage increases year-to-year. Airline miles are awarded in 500-mile increments after registering with boomerang carnets’®, Carnet HelpLine®. It remains a reward program for customer loyalty.
Carnet HelpLine® is a service mark that was first used in commerce in 1993 and appeared on the USPTO Principal Register in 1999! This mark is one of the most used of all our marks. It appears on all our marketing materials as well as being given to every caller we speak to. It circulates millions of times a month. The mark was created to bring awareness to our 24/7 customer service and to put customer’s minds at ease while they are traveling internationally. Many travelers entering foreign countries and Customs without knowledge of the language need support through that process. Boomerang carnets does more than just prepare documents, that is the easy part. We provide customer service and ongoing communication with our clients. This includes responding while they are overseas regardless of the time zone difference. This mark has been a significant contributor to our growth in the U.S. and the U.K., where we opened operations in 2015. Technology is King today but there is no substitute for a friendly voice on the other end of the telephone when you’re traveling internationally and away from home.
