The ATA Carnet, the Jewelers’ Passport, is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise or goods.  It allows cross border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free into 90+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year and is ideal for jewelers traveling abroad with merchandise that will return to the departure country. 

Without it, duties and taxes must be paid to foreign customs, or cash must be posted to secure a Temporary Importation Bond (TIB) in each country.  That can add up, especially when you are traveling to more than one country with your goods.  Unlike a TIB, the carnet provides the added security of two, or more, customs services (foreign and domestic) approving the cross-border movement of goods in advance.
