In 2015, boomerang carnets® was honored to be appointed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the official issuing association for the Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD) in the United States and Canada.  The CPD is an international customs document that facilitates the temporary admission of road motor vehicles across borders, allowing entry without the payment of import duty and tax in countries where it is required, also known as the “Vehicle Passport.”  We made history as the first and only non-automobile association—and the first private company—to receive this prestigious designation, succeeding the Canadian Automobile Association.  

This new addition to our services began with the first CPD applications processed on March 1, 2016, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to this essential document for international vehicle travel.  Now, in 2025, we celebrate a decade in operation and servicing the needs of travelers and exporters.

To commemorate this anniversary, we are proud to announce the launch of our new animated CPD video: "What is a Carnet de Passages en Douane, or CPD?" that premiered in April on our YouTube channel.  The animated video is a clear, concise, engaging introduction to the CPD, what it is, who needs it, and how it makes crossing an international border with your vehicle easy and economical.  Running time is 1 minute and 11 seconds.
 

A Legacy of Leadership in Carnet Issuance

While this year marks 10 years of CPD issuance, boomerang carnets brings longstanding service with the ATA Carnet customs document for temporary exports, also known as the “Merchandise Passport.”  For nearly 40 years, we’ve issued thousands of ATA Carnets annually, helping customers avoid duties and taxes with their temporarily imported goods, merchandise, and equipment, providing significant savings and streamlining customs clearance.
