The ATA Carnet
The ATA Carnet, also known as the “Merchandise Passport”, allows businesses, organizations, and individuals to temporarily import professional equipment, commercial samples, and goods for exhibition into more than 90 countries and territories for up to a year and avoid paying import duties and taxes. By simplifying customs procedures and reducing costs, ATA Carnets make international expansion and growth faster, more economical, and accessible, especially for companies that rely on temporarily moving high-value goods across borders.
Celebrating Trade Stories: The Carnet 250 Challenge
In 2026, boomerang carnets also launched The Carnet 250 Challenge, a year-long essay contest celebrating the stories of first-time Carnet holders for both ATA Carnets and CPDs.
In addition to ATA Carnets, we also issue CPDs which is an abbreviation of Carnet de Passages en Douane. Also known as the “Passport for Vehicles,” the CPD is a customs document that allows road vehicles to enter multiple countries temporarily without paying duties and taxes. We issue CPDs in the U.S. and Canada.
Throughout 2026, we will be inviting first-time Carnet users in the U.S. and Canada to share their stories—why they needed a Carnet, where it took them, and how it supported their international goals.
If you are a first-time Carnet holder with boomerang carnets and receive an invitation from one of our Carnet Specialists or Customer Service Representatives, we want to hear from you! At the end of the year, one participant will be selected to receive a $250 gift card.
