Morocco, known officially as the Kingdom of Morocco, is strategically located in Northwest Africa with a vast and diverse coastline on the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.  Morocco is 446,550 square kilometers (172,413 sq. miles), making it slightly larger than California.  With a population of 38.5 million, it is a dynamic country for trade and cultural exchange.  Known as the Gateway to Africa, Morocco serves as a critical strategic, logistical, and economic bridge linking Europe, Africa, and Mediterranean regions. Using an ATA Carnet to clear your goods, merchandise or equipment temporarily into Morocco will save you money and time at customs.

Partnerships with the U.S. and U.K.

Morocco was the first nation to recognize the United States as an independent country in 1777.  Today, the U.S. is one of Morocco’s top five trade partners.  In 2025, HM Department for Business and Trade announced that new U.K.-Moroccan partnerships will grow the U.K. economy.  New partnerships are enabling British companies to deliver infrastructure for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, injecting money into the U.K. economy.

Morocco is investing substantially in infrastructure in part driven by their role as co-hosts for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.  Plans to improve, expand, and/or build new infrastructure by 2030 are set.  This includes upgrading existing Stadiums and new construction for $1.4 billion.  Beyond stadiums, Morocco is investing $2.8 billion over five years to modernize its Airports.  Additionally, a plan for Highways improvement will receive a $1.3 billion investment, a Railways modernization is included with goals that extend into 2040 for $9.6 billion, and a Ports upgrade and new deep-sea facility will get $7.5 billion.

Film and Television Production

Morocco is a prime destination for Film and Television Production because of its vast and diverse coastline, close proximity to the Sahara, bustling cities like Casablanca, and major tax incentives for international films.

Christopher Nolan filmed parts of his 2026 film The Odyssey in Morocco, taking advantage of the country's 30% cash rebate incentive.  The film is a joint venture between the United States and United Kingdom with a reported $250 million budget.  Moroccan locations included Essaouira, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, and the city of Dakhla in the territory of Western Sahara.

Top industries of Morocco

Top industries that drive Morocco’s economy include aerospace, automotive, agriculture, phosphates, sustainable energy, textiles, tourism.  Emerging industries in Morocco for the U.S. and U.K. are focusing on green energy, electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystems, aerospace, digital technologies, and developing renewable energy infrastructure.

Morocco is a significant and growing destination for trade exhibitions and business events that serve to connect business interests to its shores and draw international firms looking to expand in the region.

The ATA Carnet—A Key to International Business Growth

The ATA Carnet, also known as the Merchandise Passport, is an international customs document that allows goods, merchandise, and equipment to be temporarily imported into foreign countries for up to a year without paying import duties and taxes.  Carnets create significant savings and ease clearing goods through customs.  From trade show booths and samples, cutting-edge technology, film and television equipment, to machinery and services for world-class events like the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Morocco is a destination rife with opportunity where the ATA Carnet can open doors to expansion and business growth.
