The ATA Carnet
The ATA Carnet is a unified internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise or goods. It allows cross border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free into 90 carnet countries and territories for up to a year. The ATA Carnet is known as the Merchandise Passport for boomerang freight®. Universities utilize the ATA Carnet for multiple disciplines and a wide range of applications.

ATA Carnet & AES Requirements for Universities—Know the Difference
- ATA Carnet: Used for the temporary admission of goods abroad
- AES Filing: Used for U.S. export reporting through the Automated Export System (AES) and required under certain conditions. An AES filing is required based on U.S. export regulations.
