Boomerang Carnets, Music Tours, & the LOAO National Conference

Monday, June 14, 2021

Boomerang carnets® is sponsoring the League of American Orchestras (LOAO) 76th National Conference “Embracing a Changed World” June 7-17 and hosting a virtual booth to connect with attendees.  We’re available to answer questions about international travel and touring coming out of the COVID crisis.  Interacting with the LOAO community has been a pleasure during week one of the Conference and we look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones during week two.

What is the future of touring?

Allan Scillitoe, Director, Sports & Entertainment Business Development for Agility Logistics, is a longstanding partner with Boomerang.  With over 30 years of experience in the field, he has acquired the skill and expertise professionals in the music industry have come to expect in all phases of the tour process.  We asked Allan to share his thoughts on the “future of touring” from his current and expert vantage point.

“In terms of future outlook, what comes to mind is that there is a lot of interest in returning to touring.  I have had a significant number of queries for 2022.  There currently remains considerable uncertainty about destination countries’ COVID protocols and requirements that continue to change and evolve.  Stability and predictability of cargo logistics issues are carrier costs and reliability of current carrier schedules.  Both issues remain in a state of flux and are constantly changing.  We’re working with carriers to project, as accurately as we can, costs and schedules in 2022.”

Your music, your art, must continue to be shared with the world.

Curt E.H. Wilson, President and CEO of boomerang carnets® and boomerang carnets® U.K., Managing Director, reminds us to embrace what we can do, “Now that we can travel, keeping things safer is what we recommend and if you are an individual travelling with your instrument, one of those things is getting an ATA Carnet for any upcoming international performance date.”

The recipients of this year’s Carnets “Play the World” Grants will be up on our website soon with their thoughts about the value attending the Conference brings to their orchestras and themselves.  They are The Philadelphia Orchestra, Michelle Zwi – Operations and Touring Manager and Pacific Symphony, Eileen Jeanette, Sr. VP of Artistic Planning and Production.

We hope that you continue to enjoy the Conference this week and please stop by the Boomerang virtual booth.  The culmination of the weeks’ schedule of speakers and panel discussions will undoubtedly impact the industry as we move forward.  Boomerang is grateful to be part of it.
