Export Expo 2022 - Live from MA

Boomerang carnets® was honored to be part of the 12th annual Massachusetts Export Center’s Export Expo held January 27-28.  The conference is Massachusetts’ largest and most important export event of the year bringing together resources, training, and information with the exporting community.  The conference was a virtual event with a variety of workshops led by expert speakers addressing a broad range of current issues affecting exporters.  Boomerang presented information from a compliance standpoint rather than a traditional 101 introductory perspective, since so many in the Massachusetts export community already have first-hand experience with ATA Carnets, an extraordinary and flexible international trade tool.

The ATA Carnet is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise or goods.  It allows cross border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free into 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to a year.  The ATA Carnet is known as the Merchandise Passport for boomerang freight® and ideal for professional equipment, goods, or commercial samples moving in and out of countries.

Kiel Ursin, ATA Carnet Specialist with Boomerang, expertly delivered the presentation “Tips from the ATA Carnet Compliance Toolkit” created specifically for the MA Export Expo covering six topics mostly related to compliance when using an ATA Carnet.  The Program included:

  • ATA Carnet—Historical Context Briefly covering historical information about the ATA Carnet, its inception, international use, and yearly statistics.
  • What is an ATA Carnet? A brief rundown and definition of an ATA Carnet and its use.
  • Tools & Tips to Avoid Trouble—Best Practices How to avoid any adverse issues relating to compliance, claims, and best practices to implement.
  • Troubleshooting—How to Resolve Addressing claims or penalties that may arise and how to go about resolving those, including tips on Customs stamping.
  • Selling Off of a Carnet Yes, it can be done! The process of selling goods off of an ATA Carnet explained—the carnet document allows this flexibility.
  • Carnet Compliance—“Hidden in Plain Sight” An overview of how you can maintain your carnet compliance, including reports, and using the resources Boomerang makes available on our website.
