Temporary Exports to MexicoSince Mexico began accepting carnets on May 16th, CIB has received many inquiries about using a carnet in Cabo San Lucas. Unfortunately, while merchandise and equipment to be used in Cabo San Lucas can be put on a carnet, Cabo San Lucas is not an approved port of entry for carnets per the Mexican National Guaranteeing Association, CANACO. We hope that this will change in the future and are working with the United States Council for International Business and CANACO to expand the list of acceptable ports of entry for carnets.

At this time, please work with a Carnet Specialist to determine the appropriate logistics for your carnet shipment to Mexico. This can be tricky because of limitations on using transit certificates in Mexico which further supports the need for consulting with a Carnet Specialist. Here are the approved ports of entry for carnets to Mexico:

  • Tijuana
  • Juarez
  • Nuevo Laredo
  • Altamira
  • Veracruz
  • Manzanillo
  • Monterrey
  • Guadalajara
  • Cancun
  • Mexico City Airport
